John Musunga, Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), has been appointed as the new Managing Director and CEO of Guinness Nigeria Plc.
His appointment, which takes effect on November 1, comes 21 months after Musunga took over as KBL MD in December 2020, following Jane Karuku’s promotion to EABL Group MD.
Musunga was the General Manager of Pharmaceuticals in East Africa for GSK prior to joining KBL, which is a subsidiary of EABL and Diageo (formerly GlaxoSmithKline Plc).
Musunga is a seasoned leader with both domestic and international experience.
His appointment will keep him within the Diageo Group, as Guinness Nigeria is a subsidiary of the UK-based company.
Musunga’s appointment followed the notice of retirement of Baker Magunda who has served the company for over 23 years.
Magunda is also said to have resigned from his role as the Managing Director and member of the Board of the company with effect from October 31, 2022.
Musunga has a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Nairobi (UON) and a Master’s Degree in Marketing from the United States International University (USIU).
