Special Forces drawn from KDF and other security teams have this morning stormed an Al-shabaab camp in Boni Forest, Lamu in Southeast Kenya. – By Gerald Gekara.
According to local reports, Several Al-Shabaab militants were killed, while others arrested.
However, it is important to note that the assailants were discovered near the Manda airport, the same US Naval base that was targetted in an earlier Al-Shabaab raid at the airport facility.
Equipment including hand grenades and several rounds of ammunition recovered from the outlawed militants.
Sources at the scene say the militants were delivering daggers to a terrorist safe house. The daggers were alleged to be used by terrorists in the highly unsafe region.
Coast police boss Gabriel Musau said they had intensified operations in the area following reports of the terrorist’s sightings there.
“We have increased operations in the area to rid of the terrorists on the lose,” he said.
There have been fears of attacks in the area in the past weeks. Reports said the terrorists planned to attack a camp in the new year.
