The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has raised the alarm about the high amount of debt that counties owe, which has hampered the delivery of medical equipment.

According to the authorities, the devolved units owe more than Ksh. 2.4 billion, which has hampered efforts to pay vendors.

Despite the deficit, the authority was quick to ensure health facilities that they would continue to receive medication as they worked with relevant counties to resolve the outstanding arrears.

The announcement came as the medical authority revealed intentions to decentralize its services by establishing three additional depots in Mombasa, Kisumu, and Meru.

Plans were in place to build additional depots in Kisumu and Mombasa by the end of the year as a means of shortening the time it takes to buy and deliver goods.
