KENHA — Crafty Truckers Hurting The War Against Overloading

Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has urged trailer transporters to keep the axle load promise by weeding out crafty practices.

During a tour of Juja weighbridge facilities, Assistant Manager of the Axle Load Unit Eng. Michael Ngala said trailers have a habit of raising axles to evade weighbridge checks.

“The legal requirement is once the vehicle is loaded, the axle should touch down. But you find that some people have become crafty, and somehow managed to interfere with the switches.”

Ngala added that KeNHA has partnered with transporters associations to help quell the menace.

“We have talked to transport SACCO associations so that they can sensitize their members to avoid this practice. It is dangerous.”

However, Ngala commended the truck SACCOs for ensuring compliance with axle load limits. He lauded the 98% compliance rate stating that the KeNHA awareness programme is bearing fruit.
