KeNHA Fires Warning Shot To Rogue Sand Trucks

Kenya National Highway Authority earlier today issued a notice of warning to truck drivers ferrying excessive loads mainly sand truck in Makueni and Machakos Counties. – By Caleb Mwikya.

Deputy County Commissioner of Mukaa Kaburu Kaimba has warned truck drivers in Kajiado for using cheap labor of school pupils and students in scooping and off loading sand hence recording high number of school dropouts.

Mr. Kaimba also stated that most of the affected roads by the sand trucks are majorly mombasa road,Road from Nairobi to Kiu and Kima road from Nairobi which are major roads used during transportation of the sand.

Mr. Kaimba added that civilians have complained against insecurity majorly caused by the trucks operators for them not even observing curfew time ending up working late hours.

Senior engineer from KeNHA Kennedy Ndungire said that the government of Kenya uses millions of money in repairing the roads by stating that He asked the nationa government to enforce laws to restrict overloading on roads whereby whoever ferries more than 10tonnes will therefore attract a penalty by the law enforcers.

Mr.Kennedy Ndungire also stated that only the top layer is repaired since the lower layer cant be repaired and they are usually greatly compromised by the overloaded trucks.

In other  news Mr. Kennedy Ndugire said that twenty three virtualweighs bridges were on construction and initially ten of them were on use while thirteen are under construction and are to be completed within a duration of 1 to 2 months.
