Kenya cases edge 78,000 as twelve more succumb to coronavirus

A total of 413 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 3,489 tested in the last 24 hours accorsding to the Ministry of Health. – By Gerald Gekara.

This brings the total caseload in the country to 77,785, after a total of 843,103 cases.

The ministry also confirmed 399 are Kenyans and 14 are foreigners.

Nairobi led with (229) cases, Mombasa (46), Kiambu (22), Busia (18), Uasin Gishu (15), Kajiado (12), Machakos (12). Other counties that reported positive cases included; Murang’a, Meru and Kisii each recording (9) cases, Kilifi (6), Nyeri, and Kirinyaga (4), Embu, Laikipia, and Kisumu each having (3) cases while Kericho, and Marsabit had (2) cases.

Homa Bay, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Kitui all recorded one case each.

396 patients have recovered from the disease, 326 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 70 have been discharged from various hospitals. The total recoveries now stand at 51,903.

Currently there are 1,182 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 7,142 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 52 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 16 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 86 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 74 are in the general wards and 12 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

12 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing the cumulative fatalities to 1,392.
