Kenya Commits to Realizing Universal Health Coverage Through Local Health Products Manufacturing

Mr. Harry Kimtai, Principal Secretary for State Department for Medical Services, convened a consultation conference with regional Health Products and Technologies (HPT) makers to discuss Kenya’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage through local health product manufacturing.

This gathering is in preparation for a two-day showcase of locally produced medical equipment and innovations that will demonstrate how important they are to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

According to the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), Mr. Kimtai emphasised that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to encouraging investment and expansion in domestic health product production.

By actively assisting in the realisation of UHC, this tactical choice strives to assure commodities security. Additionally, it may lead to better health outcomes, stimulate economic growth through the creation of jobs, and raise Kenya’s competitiveness on a regional and international scale.

The vital significance of health goods was emphasised by Kimtai, who underscored their power to save lives and the necessity of their accessibility in the required amount, quality, and price range.

The nation’s resilience against unplanned calamities and worldwide disruptions is increased by encouraging local production, which also ensures availability and cost.
