Indonesian Citizen Arrested At JKIA With Ivory Worth Ksh10 Million

    On Monday, October 9, airport security officers from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) apprehended an Indonesian national at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on suspicion of wildlife trafficking.

    The foreigner was discovered in possession of 38.4 kilograms of ivory worth Ksh10 million.

    The arrest followed an alarm from KAA officials at JKIA Terminal 1 during a routine passenger screening process at the airport.

    According to KAA report, “Kenyan authorities have thwarted a significant wildlife trafficking attempt at JKIA,”

    This incident at JKIA followed the recent arrest of two individuals at Kibwezi in Machakos County by investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations who discovered the suspects in possession of animal trophies.

    According to the police, the duo, who hail from Kajiado County, were trafficking seven pieces of Ivory weighing 7kgs with a valuation of Ksh1 million.
