Kenya condemns Israeli strike on Doha, calls for restraint

Kenya has condemned Israel’s attack on a building in Qatar that left six people dead and destroyed property on Tuesday, September 9.

In a statement on Thursday, September 11, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said the move by Israel to bomb Qatar amounts to a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ministry also noted that the attack poses a threat to regional and international peace and security.

“The Government of the Republic of Kenya notes with great concern the attack on a building in the State of Qatar that resulted in casualties, loss of life and properties on Tuesday, 9th September 2025. On its own admission, the State of Israel carried out this bombing.

“The attack is not only a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar, but also poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security,” read the statement in part.

The ministry said that Israel’s attack on Qatar violates international law, undermines the principles of peace and security, and contravenes the United Nations’ 1970 Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Cooperation among States.

Further, Kenya asked Qatar and Israel to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over violence.

“Kenya urges all parties to exercise restraint, uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states, prioritize dialogue and diplomacy over violence, and commit to peaceful coexistence,” the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs concluded.

On Tuesday, Israel launched a series of strikes targeting Hamas’s leadership in the Qatari capital Doha.

The strikes hit the upscale residential neighborhood of West Bay Lagoon that housed several members of the Hamas political bureau.

Five Hamas members were killed in the strike, including the son of exiled Gaza chief Khalil al-Hayya. A Qatari security officer was also killed.

Qatari Prime Minister Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani described the Tuesday attack as state terrorism that targeted the security and stability of the region.

US President Donald Trump also expressed his dissatisfaction with Israel’s attack on Hamas leadership inside Qatar.

“I’m not thrilled about the whole situation. It’s not a good situation. But I will say this, we want the hostages back, but we are not thrilled about the way that went down,” Trump stated.
