Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the digital economy, met with representatives of the World Bank.
The group is set to review the implementation of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Programme (KDEAP) initiative.
KDEAP is a planned investment operation with the goal of advancing Kenya’s digital economy as a source of innovation, job creation, and economic growth as well as bettering service delivery and accessibility through the use of digital platforms and technology.
The Project highlights five major pillars: innovation-driven entrepreneurship, digital business, infrastructure, government digitalization, and digital skills and values.
The Digital Economy strategy outlines main threats to a digital divide related to connectivity, skills, access to digital devices, and cost and suggests giving priority to policies and laws aimed at resolving these issues.
To bridge the internet connectivity gap, major commercial and public investments will be needed, as well as changes. Moreover, concentrated efforts will be needed to enhance user experience, accessibility, and acceptance of e-government services.
In a similar vein, it will be necessary to reduce the rising privacy and security threats of the digital age in order to advance digital enterprises.
The CS was accompanied by ICT and The Digital Economy PS Eng John Tanui, Senior Ministry officials and a team from ICTA.
