CS Namwamba Taps Hollywood, Investors To Promote Film Industry

Kenya is banking on international collaborations to improve the ever-growing content and film sector. 

This was revealed during a meeting between Sports, Heritage CS Ababu Namwamba and PS Ismail Maalim, representatives from the Thunderbird Regional Centre of Excellence, and a group of Hollywood film professionals. 

Dr. Sanjeev Khagram who led the team said forming partnerships and collaborations to advance the Kenyan film industry.

In order to close the production gap between Kenyan and Hollywood filmmakers, problems like capacity building, knowledge sharing, and skill development of Kenyan cinema practitioners were considered.

The delegation received assurances from CS Namwamba regarding the importance of the creative economy in the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and the Ministry’s efforts to commercialize the creative arts sector through the Talanta Hela initiative.

Among the ministry representatives present at the meeting was KFCB Ag. CEO Chris Wambua, Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase, Talanta Hela initiative Council member Dennis Itumbi, and other authorities.
