Kenya’s government, alongside representatives from the G7 nations and development partners, has reaffirmed a strong commitment to transforming Nairobi’s urban transport infrastructure through innovation, collaboration, and transparent accountability.
The commitment was made during a high-level engagement held at the Railways Headquarters in Nairobi, where Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led discussions on progress and next steps in ongoing transport reform efforts. The meeting brought together Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir, envoys, and senior diplomats, including British High Commissioner Neil Wigan, OBE.
The session reviewed the government’s priority pilot programmes focused on easing traffic congestion in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area and creating a more sustainable and inclusive urban transport system.
Mudavadi emphasized that modernizing urban mobility remains a central pillar of Kenya’s development strategy. “We remain steadfast in advancing these programmes as a critical pillar of Kenya’s development journey. Our mission is clear: to deliver smarter, safer, and more efficient transport solutions that meet the aspirations of all Kenyans,” he stated.
The strategic initiatives being implemented include improved traffic management systems, enhanced public transportation infrastructure, and the promotion of green mobility solutions, all geared toward transforming Nairobi into a modern, livable city.
Development partners applauded the government’s proactive approach. British High Commissioner Neil Wigan, speaking on behalf of G7 envoys, praised Kenya’s leadership and reaffirmed the group’s support for the transport reforms. “We commend the government’s commitment and look forward to continued partnership in building resilient urban infrastructure,” he said.
Mudavadi concluded by calling on all stakeholders to maintain the momentum and deepen their engagement. “Together, let us continue charting the path toward a better connected, greener, and more livable Nairobi for generations to come.”
The event marks a significant step in aligning international development efforts with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and urban sustainability goals, setting a clear roadmap for the capital’s transformation into a regional model for smart urban mobility.
