Kenya Police Officers Lament Insufficient Fund To Buy New Uniforms

A group of police officers has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s refusal to give appropriate financing for police uniforms.

Police officers complained in a video published on the X app by activist Boniface Mwangi that the government had failed to keep its promise of supplying free uniforms to all officers, forcing them to buy the uniforms with their own money.

The officers also lamented many government decisions, particularly those concerning corruption charges inside the police force.

The officers asked the administration to exercise caution when launching investigations into police corruption.

According to the police, the government is hesitant to pursue corrupt top officials and instead focuses on junior members within the force.

President Ruto issued a decree in January 2023 for the Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, to ensure that all police get government-provided clothes.

Ruto raised worry about the scenario in which cops were compelled to pay for uniforms out of their own pockets.
