Kenya Red Cross Denies Ksh 86M Bill At Boma Hotel

The Kenya Red Cross Society denies spending Sh86 million on conference facilities at its own hotel.

According to a study released last week by the Global Fund Audit, KRCS granted Boma Inn Hotel 69 percent of conference facility procurement without a competitive procurement process.

Secretary-General Asha Mohammed, addressing in Nairobi on Tuesday, said the organization is honest and has nothing to hide.

“Boma Hotel Inn, a KRC subsidiary, was closed throughout the lockdown, and we obeyed government laws.” “Boma was a quarantine center. Those eating at the hotel were quarantined individuals who had nothing to do with the Global Fund.”

The tender was awarded between 2018 and June 2021, according to the UN-backed Global Fund, which the Red Cross has denied.

The explosive report has cast recipients of aid in bad light following the misappropriation of covid-19 aid.

KRCS is believed to have received KSh 14 billion in HIV/AIDS funding from the Global Fund.

The Global Fund funds the battle against HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria, and has since provided KSh8 million to the KRCS to aid in the country’s HIV fight.
