The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced a vacancy for the position of Team Manager for the national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, calling on qualified and passionate individuals to submit their applications before the July 21, 2025 deadline.
In its statement, KRU outlined key requirements for the role. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, possess a post-secondary qualification, and have a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Certifications in Rugby Ready, Safeguarding, and World Rugby Laws are mandatory.
The incoming Team Manager will be tasked with overseeing team logistics, administration, budget management, and serving as the vital communication link between the technical bench, players, and the Union. The new hire will succeed outgoing manager Morgan Ngumbi, who oversaw a spirited campaign that saw Shujaa battle through a rollercoaster 2025/26 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
Shujaa, who returned to the World Series after earlier relegation, began their campaign in Dubai with a 10th-place finish. They bounced back in Cape Town with a seventh-place finish after a convincing 32–17 win over Great Britain, climbing to ninth in the overall standings. The team showed mixed form in Perth and Vancouver, before staging an impressive resurgence in Singapore, finishing second after a narrow final loss to Fiji.
Despite the promising moments, the team will now transition to the HSBC Division 2 for the 2026 season, following a restructuring of the global sevens circuit by World Rugby.
“This is a pivotal moment for Shujaa,” KRU said in its statement. “The incoming manager will be instrumental in guiding the team through this next chapter and supporting their return to top-flight competition.”
The appointment comes at a time when KRU is focused on strengthening its technical team and rebuilding Shujaa’s competitive edge, both regionally and globally.
