Kenya Youth Alliance lobby for consideration in the ongoing BBI deliberations

The Kenya youth alliance has asked the proponents and anti BBI groupings  to consider youths in the ongoing processes. – -by Enock Mukoma

 The organization has advised the youth that they should not append their signatures under pressure neither should they sign for fashion of the moment,

Speaking to the media at Serena hotel, they demand that the electorate with majority being the youth should be informed to have a good understanding of the document, calling on thorough scrutiny of its chapter and a confirmation that the document ascribes to both personal and societal demands for the youth.

The group held that they will be hosting consultative forums across regions to reach an objective consensus on the position of the Kenya youth alliance in regards to either support or denounce.

In the consultative forums the youth will scrutinize how the document seeks to address and cure ills like tribal animosity, unemployment poor economy, poverty and disease.

“we will not be party to stands taken due to political persuasion and manipulation that benefits the architects of 2022 election but be party to the position benevolent to the youth and the country at large “reads statement as read by chairperson Shamala  Dauclas

 The group further called for proper sensitization by the BBI taskforce asking the secretariat to provide proper nationwide sensitization to inform the populace up to the grass roots.

“We call on the taskforce not not to throw the the sensitization duty to political class who are pushing different selfish interests that that aligns to their side of political divide “, Part of statement reads

Further the KYA called on the political class to shun open division of the country on tribal lines on the basis of the referendum, asking teams to engage on ideologies, spur disagreements of ideals and not personalities.

‘’We also caution that no youth of the republic of Kenya should be used by any segment of the political divide to spur tension or cause violence in the referendum push.

The youth like the rest of Kenyans will take a solid stand through the Kenya youth Alliance and proceed to seek the support of the rest of Kenyans ‘’, the statement reads further.

The KYA leaders reiterated that the youth will take pivotal roles and through the national consultations the position of the youth will not be passenger nor conductors but driving force to the determination process

“we the youth are coming to earn our space because constitution making concerns the youth more than it concerns any other person because the youth have a longer future to craft.”

The group led by chairperson Shamala Douclass , Secretary general  Collince Chesire  and National coordinator Sammy Owano ,noted that the youth have been tricked and used as bargaining chips by a conglomeration of selfish individuals who seek to advance the unfortunate narrative of youthful politics of tokenism ,use youth to spur tension and unfortunate handout culture that blurs the youth from tackling their real problems.

Under the clarion call of NI SISI NI SASA the Kya leadership assured the youth that t the organization stands in the gap to correct the ills, set record straight and regain the glory that should be of the young people.
