Kenyan Faces Sex Offence Charges In UK

A Kenyan fugitive wanted by the British authorities for allegedly sexually assaulting three children has told a Nairobi court that he is willing to face justice in the European country.

Antony Kinuthia Kamau, aka Antony Kinuthe Kamau, told Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo that he was not opposed to the British authorities requesting his extradition in connection with the claims.

In Chelmsford Crown Court, he is charged with seven sex offenses.

“I direct the suspect to be remanded at Anti- Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) awaiting to be picked by Interpol who will accompany him to UK and Northern Ireland where he is warranted to face trial for sexually molesting minors,” ruled Kagendo.

Kinuthia’s relatives were allowed to visit him at the ATPU station before he was extradited, according to the magistrate.

Catherine Mwaniki, the state prosecutor, did not object to the suspect’s request to be seen by his family and lawyers before being flown to the United Kingdom.

Mwaniki told the court that the suspect will be provided with all necessary facilities at the ATPU station, which are comparable to those accessible to suspects in the United Kingdom.

“At the ATPU, the suspect will get a bed and mattress plus full meals and will be comfortable,” Mwaniki told the court.

Kinuthia was arrested last Friday by DCI detectives who were tracking him after receiving a signal from UK authorities that he was being sought for sex-related offences.

DCI officers placed him in custody at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Police Station for interrogation before arraigning him yesterday for processing.

In his court presentation, the suspect who has been living in the country for two years said: “l am willing to travel to the UK to clear my name.”

During his detention at the ATPU, the court directed that all expenses which will be incurred be footed by the UK and Northern Ireland authorities before Interpol picks him up for onward transmission.

“The paedophile is reported to have sexually assaulted underage girls within an 11-year period from 2005,” the prosecution says.

Mwaniki told the court that Kinuthia was charged with four counts of engaging in a non-penetrative sexual activity with one girl and another count of inciting an underage girl to perform a sexual act in November 2019.

The fugitive was granted bail but he fled to Kenya where he has been engaging detectives in hide and seek games until his arrest on Friday.
