Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei assured Kenyans on Monday, July 22, that agreements signed between Kenya and the United States remain secure despite the impending change in US leadership.
PS Sing’oei emphasized that the deals, finalized during President Ruto’s May 2024 State Visit to the US, are unaffected by President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek re-election.
“None. Deals were signed with the government of the United States and the private sector,” PS Sing’oei stated. “Government exists in perpetuity no matter the holder of a specific office.”
During his visit, President Ruto secured agreements worth Ksh 52 billion, spanning health, defense, and other sectors.
These commitments, primarily from US State Departments and agencies, are intended to support various development projects. PS Sing’oei assured that these commitments would be honored irrespective of the next White House occupant’s ideals.
The funds will advance democracy, human rights, governance, and health partnerships. Additionally, the US pledged significant support for President Ruto’s climate change agenda, including 11 military helicopters and funding for the Kenya Police Training Base in Kiganjo.
President Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party ticket to challenge Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump.
President Ruto and Vice President Harris share a strong rapport, having participated in a US-Kenya Business Forum hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce during Ruto’s visit.
