Kerio Valley Disarmament Gains Momentum as More Weapons Surrendered

By Michelle Ndaga

The ongoing security operation in Kerio Valley continues to register major gains, with security agencies reporting the recovery of 19 additional firearms, 109 rounds of assorted ammunition, and one rifle grenade in the Tot and Chesongoch areas.

Authorities said the latest recovery, made yesterday, marks a significant step in the region’s disarmament efforts and reflects increasing cooperation from local communities in the fight against armed crime.

The National Police Service (NPS) praised residents for their collaboration and reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum through continuous dialogue, targeted operations, and community engagement.

Officials noted that the disarmament exercise is a critical part of restoring peace, reducing banditry, and creating an enabling environment for socio-economic development in the Kerio Valley.

Security agencies have urged more residents in possession of illegal firearms to voluntarily surrender them, assuring that the government remains focused on achieving lasting peace in the region.
