Five people are believed to have died after a 14-seater matatu collided with a lorry.
The matatu was coming from Kisii town, while the trailer was coming from Sitok.
According to eyewitnesses, the matatu attempted to avoid colliding with a motorcycle before crashing into the trailer.
Masaba North police chief Robert Ndambiri confirmed the incident, urging motorists to exercise caution when travelling on the Kisii-Keroka road.
The accident occurred just one day after Pwani University was forced to close due to the deaths of several of its students in a road accident in Naivasha.
The accident in Kayole, Naivasha, claimed the lives of 17 people. Pwani University students were going to Eldoret University to compete in inter-university games.
