Kerugoya Boys High School Closed After Dormitory Fire

Kerugoya Boys High School in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County, has been closed indefinitely after a devastating fire has ravaged a dormitory.

The blaze broke out on Saturday night around 6:30 pm when students were attending evening prep classes.

According to Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Alosow, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an investigation is underway. The fire destroyed all properties in the dormitory, leaving 120 students without a place to stay.

The students were forced to leave the school on Sunday, with parents receiving messages instructing them to take their children home until further notice.

Alosow faced angry parents who arrived at the school on Saturday night, seeking answers on the cause of the fire and the safety of their children.

However, Alosow assured that no student was injured during the incident, and urged parents not to speculate until the investigation is complete.

The father in charge of the school’s sponsor, Kerugoya Catholic Church, advised parents and the school board to discuss the way forward following the destruction of the dormitory.

The closure of the school has left many questions unanswered, including how long it will take to repair or rebuild the damaged structure. In the meantime, students are expected to stay at home or make alternative arrangements until further notice.
