The Kenya Film Classification Board Ag. CEO Mr. Christopher Wambua on Tuesday 28th February 2023, attended a round-table, which was organized by the founding Director of Arizona State University’s Sidney Portier New American Film School, Ms. Cheryl Bone Isaacs.
The meeting explored strategic partnerships between Kenya and Arizona State University, especially in areas of capacity building in the film industry, investment, technology, entrepreneurship development among others.
Members of the recently unveiled #TalantaHela Technical Committee for creatives led by the chairperson Daniel Ndambuki famously known as Churchill also participated in the round-table discussion.
Mr. Wambua, while highlighting the Board’s regulatory mandate, said the new Government is committed to seeing the growth of the film sector and the Board has embarked on a raft of policy changes to ensure ease-of-doing business for budding filmmakers and businesses.
He cited the self-regulation framework as one of the measures to ensure VoDs and OTTs have the ability to self-classify audio-visual content instead of first submitting it to the Board first which would affect global releases for international OTTs.
“These efforts are all geared towards creating a facilitative regulatory environment for the continued growth of the local film industry,” Mr. Wambua stated.
