A middle-aged man’s body was discovered half-floating in the River Chania in the Gatundu North constituency, with residents claiming he had been drinking.
Harrison Kamau, according to some Makwa village residents, frequently visited some of the drinking dens located along the cliffs of the River Chania.
The deceased is thought to have lost his footing while crossing the river before falling into the water.
Ellen Wanjiku, the police commander of Gatundu North sub-county, confirmed the incident but declined to say with certainty that the deceased was drunk.
“Out team is conducting investigations into the incident, and so we cannot just conclude that the man was drunk when he drowned,” noted commander Wanjiku.
“Our officers have put up a spirited fight against illicit brew. In the same spirit, we appeal to members of the public to give leads on sellers and brewers,” she added.
The body was moved to General Kago Hospital mortuary in Thika.
