The hearing of the Kianjakoma brothers’ murder case kicked off Monday May 16,2022 at the Milimani high court.
Crime scene officer attached at the DCI headquarters Embu was the third witness to take to the stand to testify in the trial of six police officers facing murder charges.
The officers charged with the murder of the brothers include Benson Mputhia, Consolata Kariuki, Nicholas Cheruyoit, Martin Wanyama, Lilian Chemuna and James Mwaniki.
The case was to be heard on Monday last week but the court was informed that the prosecution counsel was away on official duty, forcing High Court judge Daniel Ogembo to push the hearing to Monday.
The prosecution maintains there is sufficient evidence to prove to the court that the six officers planned the killing of the Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura who had been arrested over violation of a curfew order.
The mysterious deaths of the two brothers at the hands of police officers caused public outcry in the country as Kenyans craved for justice.
As a result, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed security agencies to establish the cause of death of the two brothers while in police custody.
Njiru, who was a student at Kabarak University and Mutura were last seen on Sunday, August 1, around 10 pm.
Their bodies were found at the Embu General Hospital morgue two days later.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority said investigations had established a prima facie case against the six police officers for the crime of murder in first and second degree category.
IPOA recommended that the officers be relieved of their duties immediately pending the determination of an independent review of the findings, which will was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
