A Kibera court has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for defiling a minor, in a case prosecuted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The incident occurred at Raila Slums where the accused lured a young girl to his home, committed the act of defilement, and recorded the assault on his mobile phone.

During the trial, Prosecutor Ann Murage called eight witnesses, including the young girl who provided a detailed account of how the crime happened. Her testimony, along with that of other witnesses, convinced the court beyond any doubt that the accused was guilty.

In her judgment, Principal Magistrate Hon. Christine Njagi described the offence as “sadistic.” She emphasized that the accused had taken away the girl’s innocence and childhood through his actions.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the accused to pay KSh 2 million as restitution to the victim, in accordance with the Victims Protection Act.

The court also directed that the man remain under supervision for seven years after completing his sentence, as stipulated by Section 39 of the Sexual Offences Act.
