A unique project to drill boreholes and save communities from lack of water has started in Malindi, Kilifi County.
Currently, the Kenyan Coast and some other parts of the country are facing a long drought occasioned by climate change among other factors.
That has led to water scarcity affecting thousands of locals.
A Kilifi activist has begun a project of drilling boreholes to enable them to get the commodity when taps from the water company are dry.
Amina Mnyazi, an activist drilled and completed 25 boreholes and targets to drill 71 boreholes so as to enable the locals to get an alternative source of water.
Residents who are beneficiaries of the project said it has come at a time when their areas have been experiencing huge water shortages but expressed hope that with the boreholes, they don’t feel the pain of being without water.
