Kisauni Presiding Officer Arrested

On Wednesday, a Presiding Officer and his deputy were arrested in Kisauni for refusing to count votes. 

Nicholas Nyamuya Motatiro, 34, and Sawia Mutes Kirunda, 34, allegedly refused to count ballots at Utange polling station station 3. 

Kisauni Constituency Returning Officer Ibrahim Wario reported the two. They were apprehended around 3 a.m. and transported to the Bamburi Police Station.

Police said they will be charged in court.

“They will be charged with willfully rejecting or refusing to count any ballot paper, which they knew or had reasonable cause to believe such person was entitled to vote,” reads a police report.

They will be charged under the Elections Act of 2016.
