The county government of Kisumu has distributed fingerlings worth KSh 2M and fish feeds worth 1 M to ninety-four farmers at Ogal beach in Seme.
The farmers are the ones who were hard hit by the recent fish kills which occurred in Lake Victoria.
Speaking during the handing over of fingerlings and fish feeds at Ogal beach, Kisumu governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has said the move is to help the farmers to recover from the County the loss they incurred.
“My government wishes to assure the fisher folks at Ogal and the entire county that they will stand with you at all times. We are working on policies that will improve fish farming, especially aquaculture and Blue Economy in general”. He said.
Ogal beach, one of the landing sites, had the highest number of fish cage farmers who experienced fish kills, accounting for 85 per cent loss.
According to Kisumu County, fish kill loss is estimated at KSh.888,814,000.Other beaches that were affected were Asat, Kobudho and Nyamaroka
