Kenya Railways has discontinued the day train service between Nairobi and Kisumu in favor of a night service.
Every Friday, the train will depart Nairobi Central Station at 1830 hours and arrive in Kisumu at 0630 hours.
Every Sunday, the train will depart from the New Kisumu Station at 1830 hours and arrive in Nairobi at 0635 hours.
Kenya Railways hopes to make the service more appealing for tourists between Nairobi City, across the Rift Valley, and eventually to the Lakeside region by charging Sh2,000 for a journey in first-class cabins and Sh600 for a ride in economy class vehicles.
Following improvements to the service, passengers will be able to travel at night starting this Friday.
