Kisumu Residents Chase Police Officers Sent To Effect Arrest

Four police officers from Kisumu County’s Kasagam Police Station were subjected to mob justice on Friday after raiding a home in the Kisumu East area.

According to a police report, officers were acting on a tip-off conducted an operation in the area to apprehend suspects selling illicit brew.

However, residents raised alarm and gathered at the house, encircling the four officers who had arrived in a police van.

The angry mob confronted the officers, demanding they return to the station.

Three of the officers managed to escape from the melee, while one of them sustained dire injuries after being assaulted by the mob.

“One of the officers sustained two deep cuts on the head, two cuts on the left cheek below his eyes and swollen right cheek,” read part of the report.

Nonetheless, the police called for backup, forcing the mob to scamper for safety. The police battalion then patrolled the scene to restore calm within the area.

They also rushed the injured cop to Blizz Medicare at Mega City for medical treatment.

According to the report, no residents were arrested, but police launched an investigation and a manhunt for key suspects.

The government has increased its efforts to combat illegal brew, citing growing concerns that more young people are becoming involved in the issue of illicit alcohol.
