Kitui County Gets New Disease Surveillance Vehicle from President Ruto

President William Ruto has officially handed over a disease surveillance vehicle to Kitui County, reinforcing national efforts to strengthen public health systems and achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The handover ceremony took place at State House, Nairobi, where Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani received the vehicle on behalf of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH.

The vehicle is part of a broader Ministry of Health initiative that has seen 47 disease surveillance units distributed—one to each county.

These vehicles are crucial tools in Kenya’s integrated public health surveillance and response framework, which aims to ensure faster detection, monitoring, and response to disease outbreaks.

For Kitui County, this new addition is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery, particularly in remote and underserved areas prone to delayed outbreak responses.

With this resource, health workers will be better equipped to conduct timely field investigations, collect samples, and respond rapidly to emerging public health threats.

“This vehicle enhances our ability to reach all corners of the county in record time when responding to potential health crises,” said Deputy Governor Kanani.

“It represents a commitment by both levels of government to prioritize the health and safety of our people.”

The initiative also complements ongoing investments by the Kitui County Government to upgrade health infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services for its residents.

The move is a key milestone in the nationwide push toward robust healthcare systems capable of protecting citizens against current and future public health challenges.
