Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai Arrested For Slapping A Kenya Power Official

Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai has been arrested for assaulting a Kenya Power employee.

The legislator was apprehended in Mavoko just days after a viral video showed him slapping the engineer who allegedly disconnected electricity at his Kitengela home.

His arrest came a day after Kitengela police raided his home and seized KPLC cables and a metre box.

The MP was being held at Kitendela Police Station, according to an Occurrence Book, and would be arraigned in Court later in the day.

“Today at around 0830hrs, a group of Kenya Power employees numbering about 30 from Kitengela Branch protested from their officers in EPZ to Kitengela Police Station against the above MP who assaulted one of them on July 3, 2023.

“They demanded to know if the suspect had been apprehended. They were assured that indeed the suspect was arrested and available in Court at Kajiado,” read the police statement in part.

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the MP was seen insulting Kenya Power officers before repeatedly slapping one of them during the incident on Monday.

Mbai likewise reached for and attempted to draw his gun during his fit of rage.

Kenya Power officials claim that the MP erected a kilometer-long illegal power line at the premises.

A senior KPLC security officer said that the illegal power line was dangerous because it was overloading a nearby power transformer.
