Kitui East Member of Parliament Nimrod Mbai is mourning the sudden death of his mother, Dorcas Kanini Mbai, who perished in a grisly road accident on Sunday morning, July 20, along the Nairobi-Garissa Highway.
The tragic incident occurred at Yatta Furrow when the driver of a Toyota Probox, in which Dorcas was traveling, reportedly lost control of the speeding vehicle. The car veered off the road, flew over an irrigation canal, and crashed, killing her on the spot.
Dorcas Kanini was traveling from her home in Zombe to Nairobi in the company of another woman when the accident occurred. The second passenger and the driver sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Machakos town.
The news of her sudden demise has sparked an outpouring of condolences from leaders and residents of Kitui County and beyond, with many describing Dorcas as a humble and community-centered individual.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with speeding cited as a possible factor.
Burial and funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family in due course.
