Koinange Family Fight Over Prime Gigiri Estate

The transfer of a disputed property in Gigiri has been halted by the High Court pending the hearing and determination of a case filed by the Koinange family.

Justice Judith Omange stated that it is in the best interests of justice to hear all parties before granting the requested orders. She did, however, prohibit any further dealings with the property.

This is the second Gigiri property that the Koinange family is fighting in court.

They filed the suit, accusing the family of the late Mastermind Tobacco tycoon Wilfred M’iti Murungi of stealing the property in Gigiri, Nairobi County.

Beneficiaries of former provincial commissioner Charles Karuga’s estate claim that Mitithiru Company Limited, owned by the Murungi family, illegally obtained a certificate of lease for the disputed property on October 24, 2008.

The administrators of Karugas estate have asked the court, through their lawyer Ashford Muriuki, to cancel the certificate of lease issued in the company’s name on October 24, 2008.

An order evicting the company from the property is also sought, as is an order prohibiting the company from selling or transferring the property in Gigiri, Nairobi.
