KPA Official Detained Over Graft

According to EACC, the official failed to disclose his involvement with EIEA to his employer, the Kenya Ports Authority.

A senior official of Kenya Ports Authority was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for conflict of interest.

The official was arrested on Tuesday and will be arraigned on Wednesday (Today), according to the anti-graft commission.

The suspect, who is also a director at the Ethics Institute of East Africa (EIEA), allegedly used the company to provide consulting services to KPA for a fee of Sh2.4 million.

According to EACC, the official failed to disclose his involvement with EIEA to his employer, the Kenya Ports Authority.

“Public officers are prohibited from engaging in any conduct where their private interests compete with the public interest. They should also not use their positions of trust to confer benefits to themselves or other persons,” the Anti-Corruption Commission said.

According to EACC, the Director of Public Prosecutions agreed that there were sufficient grounds to charge the suspect.

Conflict of Interest is a violation of Section 42(3) and Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No.3 of 2003.
