KRA To Auction 300 Cars Clouded In Tax Disputes

The Kenya Revenue Authority plans to auction 314 automobiles and 223 containers that have been delayed at Mombasa’s port due to tax disputes.

It’s an occasion that’s likely to enrage a number of accused tax evaders whose high-end vehicles will be auctioned off.

The auction, which will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, is projected to raise between Sh150 million and Sh200 million, according to the Authority’s Coast Region Coordinator Joseph Tunoi.

The vehicles are being kept at several Container Freight Stations (CFSs), while the containers containing various household items, clothing, and shoes are being held at the Custom Warehouse in Mombasa’s port.

“For the first time, we are going to run a customs auction for two consecutive days. It is scheduled for June 23 and 24. This is because of the big number of motor vehicles and containers that are put on auction,” said Tonui.
