Ksh. 176.5 Million Worth of Narcotic Drugs Destroyed at DCI Forensic Laboratory

A significant step in combating drug trafficking and abuse was taken this week as narcotic drugs valued at over Ksh. 176.5 million were officially destroyed at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) National Forensic Laboratory.

The destruction followed the conclusion of court proceedings related to the substances, which included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamine, atracurium, cannabis, and flunitrazepam.

The destruction ceremony was presided over by Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku, who emphasized the importance of these actions in safeguarding society.

Among the dignitaries present were DCI Deputy Director John Onyango, Allan Mulama from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and several officials from various governmental units, including the Anti-Narcotics Unit.

Following the exercise, DCI Deputy Director Onyango expressed that the destruction symbolized an “unwavering determination to purge society of the menace of drug trafficking and abuse.”

He highlighted that “every gram of these drugs destroyed represents lives saved,” commending the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and other stakeholders involved in the fight against narcotics.

Magistrate Thuku also commended the DCI for its diligent work in maintaining community safety, reinforcing that such measures are essential for creating safe environments for the public.

The narcotic drugs were confiscated by anti-narcotics detectives during separate operations aimed at dismantling local drug networks.
