KURA risks losing millions to Outer-Ring Road Vandals

Vandalists operating at night have wrecked havoc on Nairobi’s Outering Road guard rails, expected to cost the state agency millions in repairs – By Gerald Gekara.

The suspects, operating in the dead of the night, have been dismantling guard rails meant for safeguarding pedestrians and separating lanes.

The menace that first started on the Thika Superhighway, seems to have moved to the newly constructed link road, after Kenya National Highways Authority enforced patrols to prevent looting of metal guard rails.

Pedestrians have since asked the police to crack down on the offenders, who are already breaking the curfew regulations by strolling in the dead of the night.

The Outering Road is a 13 km-long link in Nairobi City County traversing Nairobi East and Nairobi North. It directly serves a population of 2,2 million—constituting about 70% of the Nairobi City County population.

In addition to this population, there are other beneficiaries mainly users of major connecting corridors such as the Nairobi-Thika Highway, Eastern Bypass road, Kangundo Road, Northern Bypass road, Mombasa Road, and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
