KWS Warns of Fraudsters Targeting Kenyans With Fake Letters

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has cautioned Kenyans over recruitment letters making rounds on social media.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 22, the state corporation flagged the letters as fraudulent and criminal.

KWS disclosed that after its recruitment drive for rangers and cadets last month, qualified candidates were issued with official calling letters containing the details of reporting dates.

“The documents making rounds on social media platforms and purported to be issued by KWS are fraudulent and criminal. They are intended to mislead and besmirch the name of KWS. Our investigations department is working closely with other security agencies to establish the source of the fake calling letters and those behind it,” read part of the statement.

KWS warned Kenyans to be wary of fraudsters out to extort money from them.

“KWS cautions members of the public to be wary of unscrupulous and criminal elements out to extort money from them by claiming to be in position to offer them placement for the positions of cadets and rangers to train at Law Enforcement Academy (LEA),” KWS stated.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Alfred Mutua disclosed that four individuals had already been apprehended over the incident.

“Four individuals are already in custody over allegations of fraud related to this incident,” CS Mutua posted on X.
