The Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya has issued an advisory to the county government of Nakuru urging them to ban fishing in the lake.

During a press conference yesterday the chief administrative secretary Chebii Kilimo said that that chemicals in the fish was caused by pollution of the lake.

“This is not good fish, I take this opportunity to ask the county government of Nakuru through the public health department to check into the fishing issue.” Said Chebii.

Research has also shown that people who consumed fish from that lake developed rashes in their body.

Though this is not the first time the country has issued a warning over poisonous fish back in October 2018 the country banned importation of fish from China because it was discovered the fish contained metal elements in them which is harmful for human consumption.

According to a sample analysis of residue done by the University of Nairobi, fish purchased from Gikomba contained lead, copper and arsenic. Which shows that the water ponds used to farm the fish is contaminated with the elements mentioned above.
