Lawyer Omari Dismisses OCS Talaam Arrest ‘Rumours’

Lawyer Danstan Omari has rubbished reports claiming that his client Central Police Station OCS Mr. Samson Taalam was arrested in Eldoret, terming the allegations “false and misleading.”

Speaking to journalists outside Lang’ata Police Station, Omari clarified that his client voluntarily presented himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi on Friday at 2:00 PM, accompanied by fellow lawyer Mr. Keaton.

This move followed statements made in Parliament by DCI Director Mohamed Amin, who publicly named Taalam as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the death of Albert Omondi Ojwang, who died in police custody earlier this month.

According to Omari, once at the DCI offices, officers were instructed to hand Taalam over to IPOA (Independent Policing Oversight Authority).

Taalam proceeded to IPOA offices, where he recorded a statement.

However, drama unfolded during his transfer to Lang’ata Police Station. Neither IPOA officers nor DCI investigators could legally process the booking, leading to a one-hour standoff.

Eventually, IPOA investigator Mr. Jibril booked Taalam into custody, an action Omari says raises serious constitutional concerns, which he plans to challenge in court.

Omari assured the public that Taalam is in good condition, not mistreated, and “ready to face his accusers in court.”

The lawyer further pledged to release a detailed timeline of the events surrounding Ojwang’s tragic death from his booking at Central Police Station to his demise at Mbagathi General Hospital.
