Linturi ‘Incites’ Kalenjins In Rift Valley

Written By Henry Kimoli

Senator Mithika Linturi is under investigation over Eldoret tribal incitement.

The controversial lawmaker allegedly urged Uasin Gishu residents to kick out other communities from the county.

DPP Noordin Haji has given Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai six days to investigate and charge the legislator with fanning tribal animosity.

Rift Valley is a hotbed of tribal animosity since 1992.

In 2007 the ‘madoadoa’ rhetoric led to mass killings in the disputed 2007 polls.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto were charged with election violence-related offenses.

They were later cleared of the offenses but tensions continue to escalate between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities living in the Rift Valley.

The Linturi remarks are viewed as direct attacks against the Kikuyus living in the Rift Valley over the fallout between DP Ruto and President Kenyatta.

Several leaders have condemned his remarks, but the senator remains adamant that he was misunderstood.

It is believed that Kenyatta will back Raila Odinga against Ruto in the August poll.
