Linturi, Mwangaza Slamms Meru MPs For Allegedly Inciting Public To Avoid Paying Taxes

Governor Mwangaza claims that the MPs have been conducting "campaigns" within Meru County to encourage residents not to pay taxes.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza have slammed Meru legislators for allegedly inciting the public not to pay taxes.

Governor Mwangaza claims that the MPs have been conducting “campaigns” within Meru County to encourage residents not to pay taxes.

“It is very shameful, and as the governor of Meru, I will not accept it.” “The meeting that they had the other day in Maua informed them that it would be the last meeting in which they would tell people not to pay taxes,” she warned.

She emphasized the importance of county development, noting that it is only possible if everyone pays their taxes.

“Everyone needs to pay their taxes for there to be development. If we don’t pay our taxes, where do we expect to get boreholes from? Where do we expect to get good roads from?” she said.

CS Linturi supported Governor Mwangaza’s call for tax payment, stating that Meru residents “have a responsibility to file levies or taxes that the county government of Meru is asking you to pay” in order for the county government to provide services to the public.

“When someone tells you not to pay taxes, ask them what they want you to do when you go to the hospital and there is no medicine or roads aren’t built,” he said, urging residents to avoid dirty politics and instead focus on the betterment of the county.

Further, he expressed his support for Governor Mwangaza, requesting that residents allow her to do her job.

“We must support Kawira Mwangaza by all means as the leader of this county because we want peace in this county. We can’t fight throughout,” he said.

They were speaking during the official opening of the Meru Agriculture show 2023.
