Liquor-Dealing Couple Arraigned Over Fake Duty Stamps

A couple has been charged in court with the possession of fake duty stamps on 17,994 alcohol bottles.

Joseph Mwangi was arraigned in court alongside his wife Juliana Wairimu Wanjiku and charged with illegal possession of goods affixed with counterfeit exercise stamps.

Particulars of the crime is that Joseph Mwangi and his wife Juliana Wairimu, being directors of Julijo Investments limited, were found with counterfeit stamps. 

The said stamps were used to wit 17,994 bottles of fighter extra vodka.

This led to Tax and exercise duty loss Ksh 1,192,102 and a value added tax of Ksh 446,747.

Appearing before a Nairobi court in milimani, the two accused persons denied the charges and were released on a bond of Ksh 300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.

Case to be mentioned on 25th March 2022 for pretrial.
