LSK, Mutyambai War Over Abduction Begins

On Wednesday, a group of Muslim organizations, human rights activists, and lawyers protested the escalating number of cases of enforced disappearances and arbitrary killings.

On Wednesday, lawyers protested outside the Supreme Court building in Nairobi, demanding that Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai be removed from his position.

They felt Mutyambai was too relaxed and uninterested in putting a halt to the alarming trend.

“We will note accept this trend. I urge lawyers, in as much as I will also do it, to petition for removal of police IG Hillary Mutyambai for condoning this culture,” Nassir said

The Law Society of Kenya took a similar stance against key security officials, including Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his PS Karanja Kibicho, and threatened to remove the IG.

The abduction of lawyer Hassan Nandwa and his client terrorist Elgiva Bwire on October 28 sparked the protest.

While Nandwa was released after ten days, Elgiva is still missing, and a Sh10 million bounty has been placed on his head by the police.

The Kenyan Law Society had planned a week-long demonstration in response to Nandwa’s ordeal.
