Ibrahim Rotich, the husband of killed Olympian Agnes Titop, has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination before entering a plea on November 16.
This came after a lower court determined that there was sufficient evidence to charge him with her murder.
"Directions are hereby given that the accused person be escorted for mental assessment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and he be produced before the duty judge on 16th of November 2021 for plea taking," said Diana Milimo, deputy registrar of the High Court in Eldoret.
Tirop, a two-time global bronze medalist predicted for future track glory, was buried in a white casket in central Kenya on October 23, the day she would have turned 26.
"From reports from the forensic department, the government chemist, and Mpesa analysis reports, we are confident to say that we have overwhelming evidence that connects the suspect or the respondent before the court to the murder of Agnes Jebet Tirop," said Judith Ayuma, state prosecutor.
After a spectacular late-night chase, her husband Ibrahim, also known as Emmanuel, Rotich, was apprehended last week in the seaside town of Mombasa.
He had already been named as the primary suspect in the investigation.
The Kenyan leg of the World Cross Country Tour will be named after Tirop, according to Athletics Kenya.
