Machakos County Bans Food Hawking To Prevent Cholera Outbreak

Machakos County has banned food hawking in Athi River Ward, Mavoko sub-county following the ongoing cholera outbreak.

In a statement by the County Executive Committee Member of Health Dr. Daniel Yumbya, the ward has reported the recent cases of the outbreak.

“The ban on food hawking will be effective 11th March 2023 at 6 a.m until further notice as the outbreak situation is monitored,” part of the statement read.

Further, the county Health Ministry has put measures to prevent the disease from spreading further.

They include; public sensitization of cholera prevention and control, distribution of water treatment tablets and soap, and contact tracing of confirmed cases.

“Members of the public are urged to seek treatment and report cases of diarrhea to the nearest health facility promptly,” the statement adds.
