Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti faced an unexpected moment before the Senate Public Accounts Committee on October 29 after reading the wrong version of the oath.

During her appearance, the committee chair asked her to retake the oath, noting she had mistakenly included the word “else.”

“Governor, which oath did you read? Are you reading an oath in your mind or the oath presented to you?” the chairperson questioned, directing Ndeti to re-read it without the extra word.

The corrected oath was then taken, stating, “I, Wavinya Ndeti, do solemnly swear that the evidence that I shall give before this committee shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.”

Governor Ndeti appeared alongside her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, and Machakos County officials to address issues in the Auditor General’s 2022/2023 report, including unaccounted expenditures of Ksh663 million.

She praised the Senate’s role in fostering county-level democracy through accountability measures, expressing her support for their oversight.

Present during the session were Senators John Methu, Edwin Sifuna, Samson Cherargei, and Mariam Omar, among others, who engaged the governor on financial and governance issues affecting Machakos County.
