Machakos County has unveiled its sixth fully operational Fire and Rescue Centre, strategically located in Kyumbi along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, in a bid to bolster emergency response and disaster preparedness.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti presided over the launch on Thursday, calling the new centre a major milestone in the county’s commitment to enhancing safety and saving lives. She described the modern facility as a “game changer” in how emergencies are managed within the region.
“The Kyumbi Fire Station stands out as a symbol of what collaboration, purpose, and determination can achieve,” Governor Ndeti said. “This is a reaffirmation of my government’s commitment to efficiency during unforeseen circumstances.”
The facility is equipped to operate 24/7 and will provide critical services including fire suppression, rescue operations, trauma counselling, and referrals for long-term support.
Governor Ndeti credited the successful completion of the project to key development partners such as Purple Dot, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Kenya Red Cross. She lauded their contributions as vital in strengthening Machakos County’s emergency infrastructure.
“This collaboration has not only delivered a facility but has also elevated our county’s emergency preparedness, showing how impactful strategic partnerships can be,” she added.
The launch of the Kyumbi station brings the number of fire and rescue centres in Machakos to six, marking a significant step in improving response times and safeguarding lives along one of Kenya’s busiest transport corridors.
