A police officer from Tembelio Police Post in Uasin Gishu County is in custody after allegedly shooting dead his girlfriend and another man in what authorities suspect was a love triangle gone wrong.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the incident occurred around midnight at Kokwet Bar, a popular pub in the Jua Kali area of Turbo, reportedly owned by the female victim. The officer is said to have confronted his girlfriend over suspicions of infidelity before a confrontation escalated fatally.
“When the other man tried to intervene and calm the situation, the officer drew his official firearm and opened fire, killing both victims instantly,” Mwanthi said.
Police officers from Turbo responded swiftly to the scene, disarmed the suspect, and placed him under arrest. He is currently being held at a police station in Eldoret as investigations begin.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret for postmortem examinations.
Authorities have launched a full probe into the incident, with questions being raised about firearm access and the mental wellness of officers in the service.
